CINNAMON AND HONEY!!!!!!

 

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call "crystallizing".   When this happens I loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, turn off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey. 

Cinnamon and Honey 
Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around.  Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:  It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases.  Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. 

Today's science says that eve n though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.   Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists: 

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast... It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack.  Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat.  In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins. 

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly ev en chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain. 

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it.. It destroys the germs in the bladder. 

CHOLESTEROLTwo tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours.   As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe col ds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses. 

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root. 

GAS: 
According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas. 

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old. 

PIMPLES: 
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root. 

SKIN INFECTIONS: 
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections. 
WEIGHT LOSS: 
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet. 

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day. 

FATIGUE: 
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week. 

BAD BREATH: 
People of South America, first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

Simple but Helpful Advice on H1N1

 

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with   
H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

                                                                                                                                                                     
While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and           
development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of     
focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):                                                                                                           
1. Frequent hand washing.                                                                                                            
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).                          
                                                            
3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to  
proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the  same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. EATING FRUITS .......(It's long but very informative)
We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.
What is the correct way of eating fruits?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS!  FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.
FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.
In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste.. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

The main cause of liver damage

Ø Sleeping too late and waking up late are main causes.
Ø Not urinating in the morning
Ø Skipping breakfast
Ø Consuming too much medication
Ø Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweeteners.  
Ø Consuming unhealthy cooking oil.  (as much as possible, reduce cooking oil when cooking  frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil.  Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
Ø Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.  Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts.  Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.  We should prevent it without necessarily spending more.  We should have to adopt a very good lifestyle and eating habits.  Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important to our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessarily chemicals according to schedule.
 
BECAUSE:
 
Evening at 9- 11pm:  is the time for eliminating unnecessarily/ toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes).  This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music.  If during this time a housewife is still in a unrelaxed state such as helping doing homework of the kids or washing dishes, this will have an negative impact on health.
 
Evening at 11- 1am:  is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in the deep sleep state.
 
Evening at 1- 3am:  detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.
 
Evening at 3- 5am:  detoxification process in the lungs.  Therefore there will be sometimes severe in cough for cough sufferers during this time.  Since, the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract; there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.
 
Morning 5- 7am:   detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.
 
Morning 7- 9am:    absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time.  Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick.  Breakfast before 7:30 am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit.  Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits and it still better to eat breakfast late until 9-10am than no meal at all.
 
Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals.  Aside from that, midnight to 4am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood.  Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

9 simple steps to make 2009 your year to get healthy

You can’t control genetics or the guy on the bus who sneezes on you, but many factors that affect your health are well within your control. Here are nine simple and surprising ways to improve your and your family’s health in 2009.


1. Get more vitamin D. One of the hottest topics in medicine these days is vitamin D, says Kenneth Cooper, the father of aerobics and founder of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas. A July 2007 article in the New England Journal of Medicine cited insufficient levels of vitamin D as a key factor in osteoporosis. “More women will die of complications of osteoporosis of the hip than of breast cancer, and you can’t just take calcium and expect it to prevent osteoporosis unless you have sufficient vitamin D,” says Cooper. Insufficient vitamin D is clearly linked to colon cancer, and may be linked to prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, and breast cancer, says Cooper.

Vitamin D is not found in many foods. It’s present in high levels in salmon, tuna, sardines, and — ooh, yum — cod liver oil. Milk is fortified with vitamin D, but most other dairy products are not. Fortified margarines contain vitamin D. You can get 10 percent of your daily recommended dose in some ready-to-eat cereals.

Ironically, one reason more people have low levels of vitamin D these days may be because of increased use of sunscreens. UV rays from sunlight trigger vitamin D synthesis in the skin, but sunscreens block those rays. Do not skip your sunscreen though. Instead, make sure to drink milk and consider taking a vitamin supplement.


2. Sleep more …. and lose weight. Well, it’s not quite that straightforward, but a number of intriguing studies have found that people who get lots of sleep are less likely to be overweight, including a November 2007 study published in Pediatrics.

The study followed 785 children for three years and found that those who get more sleep in third grade were less likely to be overweight in sixth grade. Researchers analyzed data from the massive Nurses Health Study of 68,000 women and found that women who slept five hours a night were 30 percent more likely to gain 30 pounds during a 16-year period than women who slept seven hours a night, according to a 2006 article in the American Journal of Epidemiology.


And it’s not just because you can’t eat while you’re sleeping. Scientists believe the hormones ghrelin, which send a “feed-me” signal to the body, and leptin, a “feeling-full-now” hormone, get out of balance in the bodies of people who don’t have enough sleep. In the past 40 years, average sleep time has dropped by nearly two hours, according to University of Chicago researchers who studied the relationship between sleep deprivation and eating patterns in young men. Skimping on sleep? You’re much more likely to crave candy, cookies, chips or nuts.


3. Learn yoga breathing. The slow, deep inhale and long exhale of beginner yoga, expanding your abdomen as you fill up with air, softening as you exhale, is an excellent general relaxation technique. Practice this slow deep breathing at a weekly yoga class or on your own for a couple of minutes several times a week, till it becomes something you can do easily.


You can then use this breathing technique to help you relax, both mentally and physically. Got a charley horse in your leg? Deep breathing will usually clear it up quickly. Lower back pain got you hunched over? Try taking five or six long, slow breaths, and you just might find yourself standing straight. A couple of minutes of focused yoga breathing can also help you cope with stress. And if you’re lying in bed worrying about something and can’t fall asleep. Concentrating on your breathing for a few minutes could help you relax and let go of whatever you’re worrying about.


4. Read your food labels, looking for trans fats. “Trans fats prolong shelf life but shorten your life,” Cooper says. He suggests reading labels on all processed foods and buying only items that contain zero grams of trans fats. “If it doesn’t, I wouldn’t eat it,” Cooper says. “It’s poison.” Trans fats increase total cholesterol; they decrease the good or, HDL, cholesterol; and they tend to add weight around the belly, which is associated with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance.


5. Move. That’s right. If you can do it, move away from places with polluted air, suggests Robert Cluck, MD of the Arlington Memorial hospital in Texas. “If you are a nonsmoker and you live in a nonattainment area, your chances of developing lung cancer are about the same as a smoker (in an attainment area),” says Dr. Cluck.


Wondering what “nonattainment” means? The US Environment Protection Agency sets standards for acceptable levels of six pollutants, including ozone. Nonattainment areas haven’t met those standards. High concentrations of ozone can also aggravate bronchitis, emphysema, and other respiratory disorders.


6. Get the shingles vaccine. If you are over 60, ask your doctor about the vaccine for shingles, suggests Dr. Cluck. Shingles, a disease characterized by rash and nerve pain, mostly occurs in older people (and people with weakened immune system) who had chicken pox as a child. The chicken pox virus lodges in nerves, but is kept in check by the body’s immune system. When the immune system weakens — as it does when people age — the virus can begin multiplying in the nerves, causing the painful condition.

Thousands of people a year suffer from shingles, and half of all people who live to be 85 have at least one outbreak. The shingles vaccine is based on the chickenpox vaccine but is 14 times more potent. It can cut the likelihood of an outbreak, as well as the incidence of long-term chronic pain, in individuals who do get them.


7. Teach your children to exercise. Obesity rates in children are on the rise so encouraging them to be active helps prevent childhood weight difficulties plus teaches them habits that are important throughout life. Organized sports get kids moving, but casual exercise — walking and riding bikes — can be even more important, especially if it’s part of their day-to-day lifestyle.


One good holiday gift you can give your kids is a pedometer. Encourage them to record the number of steps they take, and try to get them to walk 10,000 steps per day.


8. Add weight training to your exercise routine. The founder of aerobics has a new exercise mantra these days: weight training. Cooper still wants to see people raising their heart rate at least three times a week through aerobic exercise, such as running, but warns them that if they don’t add weight training, “You’ll end up as I was at 55, able to run five miles in 40 minutes, but unable to pick up a sack of groceries without putting out my back.”


For those under age 50, he recommends a 70-80 percent aerobic and 20-30 percent weight training exercise regimen. Over 50, decrease the aerobic exercise to 55-60 percent and increase weight training.


9. Train your brain to improve your thinking abilities. Seniors who participate in certain brain “exercise” programs can gain real cognitive improvements — improvements that last for several years, according to a study in the December 20, 2007 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study randomized 2,832 people (average age: 74) to one of four groups: memory training, reasoning training, speed processing training, or no training. Each group participated in 10 one-hour to one-and-a-half-hour training sessions.


Participants who took part in the training showed immediate improvements in the specific cognitive ability in which they were trained, and those enhanced abilities continued even after five years. Other studies suggest that you don’t need to participate in organized training sessions to keep your mind limber. You can play intellectual games right at home such as chess or bridge, do Sudoku or crossword puzzles, or get together with friends for some social interaction.

Sleep apnea may raise stroke, death risk

It’s normal for your muscles to lose tone when you sleep — one reason people in meetings nod off so amusingly. But in 5 to 10 percent of middle-aged and older adults, the throat muscles relax so much that the airway repeatedly closes up – a condition that can be quite deadly, it turns out. According to a study published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine, obstructive sleep apnea sharply elevates the risk of stroke or death.

People with sleep apnea often don’t realize they have it, since they don’t remember waking up again and again, gasping for breath. Frequently, someone else hears the choking and “industrial-strength snoring,” says Klar Yaggi, a sleep specialist at Yale who led the study. He and his colleagues followed two groups of patients who were tested for sleep apnea (defined as stopping breathing five or more times per hour). Some had the condition; some didn’t. During the 3 1/2 years or so that they were studied, the people with sleep apnea were about twice as likely to have a stroke or die.

No one really knows why, although the explanation could have to do with the spikes of adrenaline that course through the body when breathing stops, increasing blood pressure, or with repeated plunges in the level of oxygen in the blood. This study didn’t look at whether treatment – sleeping with a contraption that blows air into the mouth – lowers the risk. Losing weight, however, can significantly improve sleep apnea. And patients who use the machine get more rest, Yaggi says, which should help them avoid another danger of sleep apnea: Car accidents.

 

 

STUDY SHOWS WHY THE FLU LIKES WINTER

Researchers in New York believe they have solved one of the great mysteries of the flu: Why does the infection spread primarily in the winter months?

The answer, they say, has to do with the virus itself. It is more stable and stays in the air longer when air is cold and dry, the exact conditions for much of the flu season.

"Influenza virus is more likely to be transmitted during winter on the way to the subway than in a warm room," said Peter Palese, a flu researcher who is professor and chairman of the microbiology department at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and the lead author of the flu study.

Dr. Palese published details of his findings in the Oct. 19 issue of PLoS Pathogens. The crucial hint that allowed him to do his study came from a paper published in the aftermath of the 1918 flu pandemic, when doctors were puzzling over why and how the virus had spread so quickly and been so deadly.

As long as flu has been recognized, people have asked, Why winter? The very name, "influenza," is an Italian word that some historians proposed, originated in the mid-18th century as influenza di freddo, or "influence of the cold."

Flu season in northern latitudes is from November to March, the coldest months. In southern latitudes, it is from May until September. In the tropics, there is not much flu at all and no real flu season.

There was no shortage of hypotheses. Some said flu came in winter because people are indoors; and children are in school, crowded together, getting the flu and passing it on to their families.

Others proposed a diminished immune response because people make less vitamin D or melatonin when days are shorter. Others pointed to the direction of air currents in the upper atmosphere. But many scientists were not convinced.

"We know one of the largest factors is kids in school — most of the major epidemics are traced to children," said Dr. Jonathan McCullers, a flu researcher at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. "But that still does not explain wintertime. We don’t see flu in September and October."

As for the crowding argument, Dr. McCullers said, "That never made sense." People work all year round and crowd into buses and subways and planes no matter what the season.

"We needed some actual data," Dr. McCullers added.

But getting data was surprisingly difficult, Dr. Palese said.

The ideal study would expose people to the virus under different conditions and ask how likely they were to become infected. Such a study, Dr. Palese said, would not be permitted because there would be no benefit to the individuals.

There were no suitable test animals. Mice can be infected with the influenza virus but do not transmit it. Ferrets can be infected and transmit the virus, but they are somewhat large, they bite and they are expensive, so researchers would rather not work with them.

To his surprise, Dr. Palese stumbled upon a solution that appeared to be a good second best.

Reading a paper published in 1919 in the Journal of the American Medical Association on the flu epidemic at Camp Cody in New Mexico, he came upon a key passage: "It is interesting to note that very soon after the epidemic of influenza reached this camp, our laboratory guinea pigs began to die." At first, the study’s authors wrote, they thought the animals had died from food poisoning. But, they continued, "a necropsy on a dead pig revealed unmistakable signs of pneumonia."

Dr. Palese bought some guinea pigs and exposed them to the flu virus. Just as the paper suggested, they got the flu and spread it among themselves. So Dr. Palese and his colleagues began their experiments.

By varying air temperature and humidity in the guinea pigs’ quarters, they discovered that transmission was excellent at 41 degrees. It declined as the temperature rose until, by 86 degrees, the virus was not transmitted at all.

The virus was transmitted best at a low humidity, 20 percent, and not transmitted at all when the humidity reached 80 percent.

The animals also released viruses nearly two days longer at 41 degrees than at a typical room temperature of 68 degrees.

Flu viruses spread through the air, unlike cold viruses, Dr. Palese said, which primarily spread by direct contact when people touch surfaces that had been touched by someone with a cold or shake hands with someone who is infected, for example.

Flu viruses are more stable in cold air, and low humidity also helps the virus particles remain in the air. That is because the viruses float in the air in little respiratory droplets, Dr. Palese said. When the air is humid, those droplets pick up water, grow larger and fall to the ground.

But Dr. Palese does not suggest staying in a greenhouse all winter to avoid the flu. The best strategy, he says, is a flu shot.

It is unclear why infected animals released viruses for a longer time at lower temperatures. There was no difference in their immune response, but one possibility is that their upper airways are cooler, making the virus residing there more stable.

Flu researchers said they were delighted to get some solid data at last on flu seasonality.

"It was great work, and work that needed to be done," said Dr. Terrence Tumpe, a senior microbiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. McCullers said he was pleased to see something convincing on the flu season question.

"It was a really interesting paper, the first really scientific approach, to answer a classic question that we’ve been debating for years and years," he said.

As for Dr. Palese, he was glad he spotted the journal article that mentioned guinea pigs.

"Sometimes it pays to read the old literature," he said.

"Health" magazine senior editor Frances Largeman-Roth pinpoints the 12 germiest places you're likely to encounter during an average day and devises ways for you to keep clean. After all, the fight is in your hands. Literally. Eighty percent of infections are spread through hand contact. So wash up, people, and get ready to wage a bit of germ warfare of your own:


1. Your kitchen sink
Kitchen sinks are dirtier than most bathrooms. There are typically more than 500,000 bacteria per square inch in the drain alone. Plus your sponge, basin and faucet handles are crawling with bacteria as well.
Reduce the risk: Clean your kitchen counters and sink with an antibacterial product after preparing or cleansing food, especially raw fruits and vegetables, which carry lots of potential pathogens like salmonella, campylobacter and E. coli. Wash your hands as well with warm, soapy water for 20 seconds (long enough to sing "Happy Birthday"). Sanitize sponges by running them through the dishwasher's drying cycle, which will kill 99.9 percent of bacteria on them. As for the sink, clean it twice a week with a solution of one tablespoon of chlorine bleach and one quart of water. Scrub the basin, the pour solution down the drain.

Reduce the risk: Toilet seats are surprisingly clean, but use the paper cover when available. After using the toilet, wash and dry your hands thoroughly, and use a paper towel to handle the toilet seat, lid, tap and doorknob. Put the lid down before you flush. If there's no lid, turn your back to the toilet while flushing and beat a hasty retreat.


3. A load of wet laundry
Any time you transfer underwear from the washer to the dryer, you're getting E. coli on your hands. Just one soiled undergarment can spread bacteria to the whole load and machine.
Reduce the risk: Run your washer at 150 degrees (you can check the temperature of your washing-machine water with a candy thermometer) and wash whites with bleach (not the color-safe type; it doesn't pack the same punch), which kills 99.9 percent of bugs. Transfer wet laundry to the dryer quickly so germs don't multiply, wash underwear separately (there's about a gram of feces in every pair of dirty underwear) and dry for at least 45 minutes. Wash your hands after laundering.

4. Public drinking fountains
Drinking fountains are bound to be germy, but school fountains are the worst, with anywhere from 62,000 to 2.7 million bacteria per square inch on the spigot.
Reduce the risk: Send your child to school with plenty of their own beverages and tell them to wash their hands throughout the day.

5. Shopping cart handles
Saliva, bacteria and fecal matter are just a few of the substances found on shopping cart handles. Cart handles rank high on the yuck scale because they're handled by dozens of people every day and, of course, raw food carries nasty pathogens.
Reduce the risk: Many stores have dispensers with disinfectant wipes near the carts. If your store doesn't, bring your own wipes and give the handle a quick swab. Or carry along a cart cover like the Grip-Guard or Healthy Handle.

6. ATM buttons
If you're not careful, you might pick up more than quick cash from your local ATM. These buttons have more gunk on them than most public-bathroom doorknobs! ATMs aren't frequently cleaned, and are regularly touched — a perfect combination for a lot of germs.
Reduce the risk: Carry an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with you and rub it on hands after visits. Also be sure to do it after you handle paper money, which actually carries quite a few germs, too.

7. Your handbag
Recent studies found that most women's purses had tens of thousands of bacteria on the bottom and a few were overrun with millions. Another study found bugs like pseudomonas (which can cause eye infections) and skin-infection-causing staphylococcus bacteria, as well as salmonella and E. coli.
Reduce the risk: Instead of slinging your bag on the floor, hang it on a hook whenever possible — especially in public bathrooms — and keep your bag off the kitchen counter. Stick with leather or vinyl purses, which are typically cleaner than cloth.

8. Playgrounds
There's just no way to put this delicately: Children tend to ooze bodily fluids and then spread them around. When researchers sampled playgrounds, they found blood, mucus, saliva and urine. Pair those findings with the fact that children put their fingers in their mouths and noses more than the rest of us, and it's easy to understand why Junior (and maybe his mom or dad) has the sniffles.
Reduce the risk: Carry alcohol wipes or hand-sanitizing gel in your purse, and clean everybody's hands a couple of times during a park visit, especially before snacking. Pick warm sunny days for outdoor play: The sun's ultraviolet light is actually a very effective disinfectant. Most bugs won't survive long on surfaces that are hot and dry.

9. Mats and machines at health clubs
Antibiotic-resistant staphylococcus has been found on yoga mats and cardio and resistance machines. At high schools, antibiotic-resistant-staph infections have been transmitted through wrestling mats. The same thing could happen at health clubs.
Reduce the risk:
Wipe down machines with antibacterial wipes before working out. Bring your own yoga mat or cover a loaner with your towel. Shower after a workout and soap up your skin to rinse off any bacteria you may have been exposed to, as thorough washing gets rid of antibiotic-resistant staph.


10. Your bathtub
Shocking, but true: The place you go to get clean is quite dirty. A recent study found staphylococcus bacteria, a common cause of serious skin infections, in 26 percent of the tubs tested, as compared with just 6 percent of garbage cans. Tubs typically had more than 100,000 bacteria per square inch! You're washing germs and viruses off your body and the tub is a fairly moist environment, so bacteria can grow.
Reduce the risk: Once a week, apply a disinfecting cleaner to the tub and actually scrub. Then you need to wash the germs down the drain with water and dry the tub with a clean towel. If you leave the tub wet, germs are more likely to survive. If someone who uses the tub has a skin infection, scrub it afterward with a solution of two tablespoons bleach in one quart of water.
11. Your office phone
This is enough to make you dial 911: Office phones often have more than 25,000 germs per square inch, and your desk, computer keyboard and mouse aren't far behind. Phones, including cell phones, can be pretty gross because they get coated with germs from your mouth and hands.
Reduce the risk: Simply cleaning your desk, phone and keyboard with a disinfecting wipe once in the middle of the day will kill 99.99 percent of the bacteria and viruses.

What's the first thing you do when you settle in at a hotel? You grab the remote control and switch on the TV — you, and the hundreds of other guests who've stayed there. How dirty is it? A recent study tested various surfaces for the cold virus after a group of sick people had stayed overnight and found the virus on the remote, door handles, light switches, pens and faucet handles.
Reduce the risk: Clean the remote control, phone, clock radio, door handles and light switches with germicidal wipes.

Natatandaan pa ba ninyo ang KINUNOT?

Ingredients:

1 Kg. Lagyu or Page

1 buo Niyog (or 1 lata gata)

Luya, Bawang , Asin, Paminta, Sili, Suka, Tanlad or Lemon Grass

Dahon ng sili if desired

Paraan ng pagluluto:

1. Yabusan ang lagyu or page.

2. Himayin, alisin ang balat at tinik

3. Prepare gata from the niyog, ihawalay ang unang gata (for lipotok)

(puwede rin ang de latang gata na nabibili na ngayon)

4. Pakuluan ang ikalawang gata, ilahok lahat na ingredients as stated above.

5. Pakatihin, ilagay ang lipotok or unang gata.

6. Oras na kumulo, ayos na, luto na.

7. Ilagay dahon ng sili. !!!

 


TINADTARANG HIPON

Mga Sangkap:

1/2 kg Hipong Urong (karaniwang nahuhuli sa Pandanan River. Pwede rin naman ang regular shrimp, but hipong urong is preferable)

1 Kabuong niyog (yong medyo mura pa meaning sariwa pa)

1 Luya katamtaman ang laki

Asin, Bawang , Sibuyas

Dahon ng saging o dahon ng gabi

Ganito ang paraan ng pagluluto:

1. Balatan ang hipong urong (hilaw). Don't remove the piga or fat, mas masarap kung kasama ito.

2. Mix together with niyog, bawang, sibuyas and add salt to taste.

3. Then tadtarin ng pinong pino.

4. Balutin sa dahon ng saging.

5. Ilagay sa pot or palayok.

6. Hayaan nakasaplang hanggang 30 minutes.

7. Takaw kanin kaya dagdagan ang sinaing.

Note: May paraan din kung gusto  lutuin sa gata ng niyog.
